Luis F. Avilés González, Ph.D.

Dr. Avilés González is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Colorado College. His main area of research is variationist sociophonetics, Heritage Languages, and Digital Studies. He is a proud First-Gen student from the San Ysidro-Tijuana borderlands. He joined the faculty at Colorado College after completing his doctoral program at the University of Texas at Austin under the co-femtorship of Dras. Almeida Jacqueline Toribio & Barbara E. Bullock.  His dissertation project: Pus 'ta Cabrón: Variation of pues in the Spanish of Southern San Diego explores the variation of the discourse marker pues in migrant and heritage spanish speaking communities along the Southern San Diego border region.
